1, 2 or 3 Eryngium Planum Blue Hobbit

Bring some variety to your flower display with this Eryngium Planum Blue Hobbit. A unique, compact blue form of Eryngium or Sea Holly which produces masses of thimble-sized blooms, Blue Hobbit is the perfect plant for a warm sunny border where its steely-blue flowers give height and contrasting structure. The thimble-sized, metallic-blue flowers are surrounded by a collar of short spikes and are carried on short, blue stems that rise from the clump of rounded basal leaves in summer and early autumn to fill your pots and borders with colour and texture. Each thistle-like head is composed of many smaller flowers, each of which provides a valuable nectar source for pollinating insects so naturally plants are very attractive to insects. Supplied as an established plant in 9cm pot, ready to pot on or plant out as the weather warms. Easy to grow and grows well in difficult conditions and will thrive in gravel or seaside gardens.
 
What you need to know:

Grow in dry, well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil in full sun, with protection from winter wet
Eryngium plants particularly dislike cold, wet soil in winter which may cause the crown to rot
If planting on heavy soils, dig in plenty of coarse grit to improve drainage prior to planting
Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds
Individually knock out each plant from its container
Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball
The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems or the shoots above ground
Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas
Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation
